I grew up down the road in Camp Hill and went to Colorado to attend college – then transferred to Dickinson when I needed to be closer to home – thinking that I would not really like it here but that my family needed me. Then, as the years went by (54 of them now!), I’ve become more and more fond of Carlisle and would do it all over again if the occasion arose!⠀

After finishing college I taught at what was then the Cumberland County Division of Special Services – later the Capital Area Intermediate Unit. After years of teaching students with various needs (my favorite were the teen aged kids with behavioral “issues” – wonderful kids!) I became a Behavioral Support Consultant for the Intermediate Unit. ⠀
Since retiring from that career I’ve been active with the Carlisle Area Dog Parks Association. Our association created and now maintains and improves the park (which is located in Shaffer Park) for Carlisle area dogs and their owners to have a safe and secure place to socialize, exercise and play. ⠀

There is very much that is good about this community – and the fact that the citizens are always striving to make it better is one of them! It is so heartening to live where there are signs in many yards and windows reminding people that all are welcome here! ⠀

The diversity that we have here does much to strengthen our town and I believe that will continue to enhance our lives here. Given the state of our country today it is clear that we will have to continue to work hard to make this a good place for all people..and I think we are up to it! – Gail Black
